How to Beat the Heat and Still Be Motivated to Exercise This Summer

Summer is upon us, and it’s time for the beach and sitting poolside, sipping a cool drink and soaking up the sun!

But of course, just because it’s summer doesn’t mean your fitness goals should go by the wayside. If anything, beach season means you’ve got more energy to devote to looking hot and svelte in your bikini or swim trunks!

With the high temperatures setting in, though, staying fit can certainly be more of a challenge. Fortunately, we’ve got some tips to help you beat the heat:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

You should be drinking water every day – and especially if you’re exercising regularly too!

Doctors and health professionals recommend drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water. But remember, you don’t have to drink tap water only.

Try jazzing up your water with lemons, limes, cucumber slices, or berries. There’s also the extensive line of carbonated waters that are available, all of which can contribute to your water intake.

Exercise inside where there’s air conditioning.

Of course, the best way to avoid sweating excessively from your workout is to workout inside in a fitness center that has air conditioning. Complete your routine as usual and you won’t even notice it’s summer!

Go for a swim.  

Swimming is the perfect summer workout routine. It can be difficult to get a truly intense workout at the beach, but in a swimming pool, you can swim laps or set a timer and tread for 10, 15 or even 30 minutes while chatting with friends, listening to music or (if you’re truly talented) while reading a book!

Exercise early in the morning or late at night.

If you won’t be swimming and won’t be in an air-conditioned location, you can still get your workout in outside without breaking an excessive sweat. The key? Get out early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperatures are at their lowest.
